Fantastic! I never knew this. Although I haven't had trouble hard-boiling eggs (I use the "bring to boil, cover, remove from heat, let sit for 13 minutes, then into ice bath" routine), it would be nice to not have to watch water boil then be on guard for the timer to go off. I will definitely try this. Also you can make so many more at one time. I eat a lot of hard boiled eggs (great snack) and you just can't boil that many at one time. Thanks again, Shannon!

Corinna,

Thank you so much for sharing. I really appreciate it.

You know, coming 'out' is not an easy thing. I didn't tell anyone but immediate family for a very long time. You mus do it when you feel comfortable, not on anyone else's time table.

And thanks for the tips. We do those things often too, but as you know best laid plans and the Spectrum....

Oh Shannon, I can totally relate! I've endured SO many of those stares. My almost 8yo DS is also on the spectrum (and I have to say, I am usually very reserved about sharing this, mainly because of the 'label', but I could get comfortable using the term "on the Autism Spectrum" because it is so much more revealing than just "has Autism". Every child expresses themselves differently, as I'm sure you see even in your girls. But I digress!)
I've even had to face my son's teacher after he was suspended for hitting her! Yikes! Fortunately, he is doing MUCH better now and I'm getting better at 2 things: 1) preparing him before we go places - he needs to know what's going to happen and transitions are tricky and 2) having rewards/consequences at the ready to bring him back in line. Sometimes it works, sometimes it blows up in my face.
Such is the joy of raising a child (or in your case, children) "on the Spectrum"!
I like to think that people are becoming more and more aware, thanks in part to blogs like this one Shannon, but also due to the shear numbers! I've had complete strangers ask me if my son is Autistic, and he's extremely high-functioning - but boy, when he loses it... - and every time they say they have already been in contact with another child on the spectrum, either in their family, or through their work, etc. I like to think our children will be better received by society in general then the previous generations. And I guess I should do my part by not being to reluctant to be open about my son's diagnosis!
Thank you, Shannon, for bravely sharing your story with us.

You are so right. I am home right now with our oldest who has strep (he's 9). I am working away in the home office while he happily watches movies from the couch. I LOVE working from home :)

A great reminder that everyone shows and accepts love differently and that we each have our own "love language"

I really can't answer... we asked for no gifts at our party. But when it comes to kids with Autism, presents, wrapping paper, etc can be overwhelming and lead to difficulties.

So maybe, just maybe, there is a reason behind this.
